Psalm 27

A REFUGE AGAINST THE STORMS

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?.

Our daughter, Caitlyn, is terrified of thunderstorms, especially those that strike in the night. Our bedroom is her safe place - her refuge when wind howls in the darkness, thunder rattles the house and hail beats at the windows. With the comfort of knowing mom or dad is just an arm's length away, she is able to ride out the storm and sleep peacefully.

Having lived in the Midwest my entire life, I've seen my share of thunderstorms! When violent weather hits, it breeds fear and unrest - no matter what age you are. When Satan creeps into our lives like a dark cloud, it breeds the same kind of negativity in our lives.

In Psalm 27, David realized he could not handle life on his own - a life filled with so many ups and downs and so much fear and unrest. In this first verse, David sees God as the light that will conquer any darkness.

What a great reminder that God is in control and is the only refuge during life's storms! I've come to know that believers are safe in God. This gives me the much-needed confidence, courage and hope to keep moving forward on my journey of faith despite whatever tries to beat me down. With God, let me be fearless!

Dear Dear Lord, we are victorious in your light! May we all take refuge from the darkness and cling to hope. Amen.
