Holding on to faith
Daily Devotions for Lent 2023
Faith. Faith. FAITH. Faith. fAiTh. Faith.
Ask someone to define faith, and you’ll probably get something akin to the Oxford Dictionary definition: 1) Complete trust or confidence in someone or something; 2) Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.
That’s fine. Dig a little deeper, though — ask “What does faith mean to you?” or “How do you see faith in the world around you?” — and you probably will get as many opinions as the people you ask. Faith can seem as ethereal and changing as the concept of the Holy Spirit itself.
That’s what you’ll witness in the pages of this booklet. Many different views, many different expressions — all vibrant and alive and true. That is the wonderful thing about Reformation’s devotional booklets. Each shows the many different faces and voices of our congregation. We hope you will identify with many, if not all, of them.
As usual, we couldn’t have put this booklet together without substantial help, starting with the theological guidance of Pastor Ralen Robinson. Among the others who contributed:
Co-editor: Anita Dorf
Copy editor: Twyla Hill
Proofreaders: Jolene Dougherty, Suzanne Koch, Camilla Wilson
Digital producer: Mark Yeskie
We thank you all, and especially the writers of all ages who stepped out of their comfort zones and shared parts of themselves with us. You’ll find their names at the bottom of each page.
