Exodus 4:1-17

FIND YOUR VOICE

But Moses said to the Lord, "O my Lord... I am slow of speech and slow of tongue." Then the Lord said to him... "Now go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to speak.”

Many of us find it hard to use our voices for God. Like Moses, we are convinced no one will listen, and we claim that our voices are weak.

Why should we care if we can speak for God?

Speech is so important to the Christian religion. Many prophets spoke God's words. Jesus told many parables to help us understand that which can be difficult. God even made it possible for the disciples to speak in other languages so that all could understand the Word. Learning to speak to others for God is an important part of what we believe.

God will help if he is asked. He still gives people the wisdom to say what he wants to convey. He may not give you a staff that turns into a snake, but he will give you the tools to convince people that his way is the right way. Don't be discouraged if not everyone listens. I would be willing to say that even some of Moses' audience still didn't believe after all the miracles they were shown.

You may need to look for those areas in which God has taught you to speak. Maybe you speak in the way you live your life and help others. Does verbal communication have to be the only way we communicate our God to others? Moses went with his faith to live that faith in front of the Israelites, and God provided Aaron to help with the verbal communications. I have a great deal of trouble speaking to people I don't know, yet I can participate in plays with an unknown audience. Maybe that is the way God has helped me speak.

Lord, help us find our voice so we may loudly exclaim your name. Make known to us the way you have given us to speak for you. Let us speak to those who need us the most. We have seen your strength can be our strength and your words our words. Amen.
